A graduate of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, Dr Kenneth Montague is a full time dentist – as well as an art collector, curator, and music producer!
Since opening in 1992, Dr Montague’s dental office has grown from an initial staff of three to the current dedicated team of twenty, and his wonderful patients include some famous ones – like singer Nelly Furtado
and actor Russell Crowe! Toronto NOW magazine readers have consistently chosen him as their favourite dentist; he has won their annual “Best of Toronto” readers poll multiple times over the years.
In the late 1990’s, Dr Montague headed the Communication and Public Education Committee for the Ontario Dental Association, which included the production of a national advertising campaign
about dental heath.
Since 2001, Dr Montague has appeared in numerous magazine and online journals, as well as a variety of television programs promoting dental health, including Health Update with Karl Kabasele (CityTV), Diagnosis MD (OLN), Much On Demand (MuchMusic), MTV Live (MTV Canada), The Stephen & Chris Show (CBC), and This is Daniel Cook (Treehouse).
From 1995-2008, Dr Montague produced an annual music compilation album featuring local and international artists, and in 2006 he received a national arts honor, the SOCAN’s Patron of Music Award, for “recognizing the value and importance of music”.
Dr Montague is also the founder of Wedge Curatorial Projects, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting contemporary art that investigates black identity; it started as a gallery space within his home. In 1997, his extensive photography collection was featured in a coffee table art book entitled FLAVA (D.A.P./Distributed Art Publishers). Also highlighted were the many exhibitions, art projects and community workshops that his Wedge art project had produced over the past decade.
Recently appointed to the Photography Curatorial Committee of the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Advisory Board of the Ryerson Gallery and Research Centre, Dr Montague is a frequent lecturer and panelist at international symposiums, including travel to Africa, Europe and the Caribbean. At his alma mater, The University of Windsor, he has established The Dr. Kenneth Montague African Diaspora Scholarship, and he is a well-known promoter of emerging artists from Canada.
